Our Company

Our love for plants (and beer) led us to an in-house project between co-workers, to see if we could grow hops hydroponically. And we did.

Rough Brothers, Inc. was founded in 1932, as a maintenance and repair facility for greenhouses that were made out of redwood. Over the last 85 years, RBI has evolved from a small workshop with a handful of employees to become the largest greenhouse, garden center, and conservatory manufacturer in North America.

As a Cincinnati company, beer is in our blood. In 1812, Cincinnati opened its first brewery and by the mid-1800's the city was producing more than 30 million gallons of beer a year. By 1890, Cincinnati was making and consuming so much beer that we were dubbed "Beer Capital of the World." Cheers!

Keith Bemerer
Crop Scientist, Inside Sales

Keith has a BS in Agriculture specializing in Floriculture Crops from The Ohio State University. After almost two decades as a grower for the wholesale bedding plant industry, he was recruited by Rough Brothers, Inc. for sales and design. He is the treasurer for the Cincinnati Flower Growers Association. HopsHouse is a great example of blending his career together: studying the hops plants in an indoor environment and developing a structure around them. In his spare time, he makes home brewed wine and beer, concocting different flavor profiles for something tasty to drink.

Sable Bender
Marketing

Sable has a BA in Liberal Arts from the University of Cincinnati. She traded in her job as an event planner for a seasonal position as a farmer and never looked back. Her passion for agriculture lead her to Africa to work for a start-up in Accra, Ghana prior to joining our team. HopsHouse is one of her favorite projects to date- she gets to combine her love of ag. and beer. You can find her drinking something dark and heavy or something funky and unfiltered.
